Pumpkin Oil – Hempkin Oil
Pumpkin seeds contain approximately 30-50% oil. Pumpkin oil is not a widely known oil, but is remarkably nutritious, with many great health benefits. It contains both essential fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6, and other nutritional fatty acids, including Omega-9 (oleic), stearic, palmitic, and Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Its Omega-3 (linolenic acid) profile is very high, at 55%, so it has strong anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, beneficial for both joint functioning and skin repair. Its Omega-9 content at 24%, palmitic acid at 12%, and stearic acid at 5%, add to its moisturizing and cellular lubricating benefits. It is used for anti-aging skin care and for healthy, shiny hair. Like hemp, it is good for healing wounds, especially burns.
Pumpkin oil has a high antioxidant capacity, containing Vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols) and some important carotenoids. It has a surprisingly high, approximately 30%, protein content, building cellular strength and providing endurance. Additionally, it contains some fiber, carbohydrates, and contains trace minerals at approximately 5%, being particularly rich in magnesium (also energy enhancing in the ATP cycle) and zinc (immune support), and has naturally occurring tryptophan, which helps with sleep. Pumpkin oil supports fat breakdown, nourishes and heals the digestive tract, and also helps with circulation, liver and kidney functioning. Cholesterol levels are also helped kept in balance. Pumpkin oil is probably best known for maintaining both healthy male and female reproductive systems, as it is hormone balancing. It is also recognized as helpful to the prostate gland (again, its zinc content) and to the urinary tract, so aids in better bladder functioning. It is an antiparasitic, anti-arthritic, and studies show benefits for diabetes.
Hemp oil and pumpkin oil—the two combined as hempkin—make an excellent nutritional super-oil blend, with a great taste. They are complimentary in many ways, providing a synergy of mutual benefits. The two together offer a literally 1:1 ratio of EFAs: Omega-3 (55% for pumpkin) and Omega-6 (56% for hemp). Essential fatty acids are required for our health and well-being. Our bodies do not produce them, so we must get them in our diet. They are vital to the maintenance of cell membranes, which is our first defense against bacterial infections. They are essential for an effectively functioning immune system. They also have the major role of forming hormone-like substances which control all body functions. They help us to digest fats, thereby regulating the correct balance of saturated fats and blood cholesterol in cells. Essential fatty acids are key building blocks required for normal growth and energy. The combined synergy of hemp and pumpkin has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-parasitic properties. The cell nourishing properties are healing and moisturizing for the skin. Skin, hair, and nails all benefit.
